Built in 1825 by Ironmaster Williams Crawshay II, Cyfarthfa Castle is often referred to as the Jewel in Merthyr’s crown and this visit is set to be one of the highlights of what has been a wonderful year of celebratory events to mark its bicentenary year.

Councillor Brent Carter, Leader of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, said: “It is a great honour and privilege to welcome Their Majesties to Merthyr Tydfil. We are especially excited about this double celebration, with not only Cyfarthfa Castle marking its 200th year, but the King celebrating his birthday on the day of the visit.”

Members of the public are invited to the Cyfarthfa Castle forecourt from midday on Friday 14th November to welcome The King and Queen as they visit the castle.

Cyfarthfa Castle Museum will be closed to the public on Friday 14th November.

Cyfarthfa Park will be closed to vehicular access on Friday until after the visit, with pedestrian access available via the main gate.
