The Cyfarthfa Foundation is recruiting for a Chief Executive

July 15 2024

The Cyfarthfa Foundation is seeking a new Chief Executive to continue to champion the Foundation’s ambitious plan to transform Cyfarthfa Castle and its 160-acre park into a thriving cultural and visitor attraction of national standing in Merthyr Tydfil.

Reporting into the Board and working alongside a small staff team, the Chief Executive will be responsible for driving the project forwards, building on existing momentum.

The post-holder will continue to develop relationships and partnerships across public and private sectors, while defining the Foundation's business plan and carrying the project into its next phase. This will build on the progress made under leadership of Anna Baker, the Foundation’s first Chief Executive, who leaves at the end of July.

Anna has led the organisation for nearly two years, recruiting its initial team, helping to define Cyfarthfa’s future as both a museum and gallery, establishing an education programme and developing plans for Cyfarthfa’s bicentenary in 2025.

Geraint Talfan Davies, Chair of the Cyfarthfa Foundation said:

“We shall be sorry to lose Anna Baker, who has moved this ambitious project forward with great energy.

“Whilst we await the appointment of her successor, Gemma Durham, Director of Brand and Engagement, will take on the role in the interim. Gemma joined the Cyfarthfa Foundation in April 2024. She is an experienced marketing professional who has worked mainly in the cultural sector. Prior to her appointment she was Head of Theatre, Arts and Culture with Newport Live, a post that included responsibility for The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.”

Anna Baker said:

“I have enjoyed my time with the Cyfarthfa Foundation tremendously, working with a passionate and determined team to shape the future of the project. I look forward to seeing our plans come to life in the coming years.”

The closing date for applications for the Chief Executive role is 24th July 2024. For more information about the role at the Cyfarthfa Foundation, please visit Goodson Thomas.
