Cyfarthfa200
Cyfarthfa Castle is a jewel in the crown of Merthyr Tydfil. Every year thousands of people enjoy a visit to the castle and its expansive gardens, lake, play area and other activities.
Built for the ironmaster William Crawshay II in 1825, today the castle houses Cyfarthfa Museum & Art Gallery with historic artefacts linked to Merthyr Tydfil’s past - ranging from a distinctive art collection to the world’s first steam whistle.
In 2025, Cyfarthfa Castle will be celebrating its bicentenary. During the year a programme of fun, exciting and informative events and exhibitions will be taking place to highlight its national and international importance and to celebrate the history of the people and communities that made it.
